Historical Background
Technically speaking, the idea of a rocket belt was credited to Wendell Moore, who called the device a Small Rocket Lift Devise (SRLD). Moore himself tried out the first self-operated version in 1958. The first attempts were short and rough, but good enough to interest the United States Army in 1959.
